Les Vignerons D’ Estézargues, created in 1965, is a co-operative cellar in the small town of Estézargues which is located near Avignon. Les Vignerons D’ Estézargues takes a fundamentally different approach to the standard practices of cooperatives in France; the ten different growers in this co-op began to vinify their wine separately and make single cuvées from their best plots. On the heels of the single cuvée evolution, over twenty years ago, Les Vignerons D’ Estézargues began to practice natural winemaking. The process of conversion to organic farming was initiated in 2005, and today 8 out of 10 estates are Ecocert certified, or in the process of being so, representing 70% of the vineyards.
The vines benefit from the “Mistral”, a wind that blows through the Rhône Valley to the Mediterranean with alluvial marls and clay with galets (rounded pebbles typical of the area) and a south facing exposure. Conscientious farming aka lutte raisonée is vital and Les Vignerons D’ Estézargues uses no external yeasts, no filtering, no fining and no enzymes are employed on the grapes during the winemaking process.
